3 Tips To Speed Up Your Tummy Tuck Recovery

If you exercise all the time and are fit but you are self-conscious about getting in a bikini because you have excess loose skin on your stomach, then you may be the perfect candidate for a tummy tuck. A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a surgery that's use to help tighten abdominal muscles and get rid of excess skin to give you a sexier look. Because a tummy tuck is a fairly invasive surgery, it will require a lot of time and attention while you recover. To help you speed up your recovery and get into a bikini sooner rather than later, here are three tips to follow.

1. Clean the Drain

Most of the time, your surgeon will send you home from surgery with a drain in the incision site to help get rid of excess fluids. For the first several days following your surgery, the fluid coming from the drain will be red, and then it should slowly switch to a clear color. To help prevent any infection from occurring, make sure that you clean around the drain site every day with a clean cotton pad. If you experience any fever, swelling, or inflammation around your incision site, then reach out to your doctor as soon as possible.

2. Rest Often

If you are the type of person who has a hard time relaxing and sitting still, then this step may be a bit difficult for you to do, but it's an absolute must. When you take time to rest, it gives your body plenty of time to heal after a surgery. Depending on whether or not you have a drain in your stomach, try to sleep with your head elevated to help ease any swelling that you may have.

3. Wear the Compression Band

Wearing a compression band around your stomach will help with a variety of things, including keeping your abdominal muscles in place while they are healing and getting rid of too much inflammation. As long as your compression band isn't too tight and uncomfortable, you should be okay to wear it every day for a few days.

Taking care of yourself after a tummy tuck doesn't have to be a big deal, but it does require that you take a few steps. To learn more about these tips and tricks, or if you have any questions about getting a tummy tuck, then reach out to your cosmetic surgeon today.
